Day one at Cardigan was mostly about getting settled in and getting to know one another. We arrived by bus and instantly saw the huge lodge build in the middle of the feilds. We played some group games in the feild. Games like yee-haw and trail baseball. We then filled out a survey. Afterwards we went inside and ate lunch which we brought from home. Mine was a sandwich and chips. We were then shown our bunk rooms so that we could get settled in. I was bunked with Raylan, Chase, and Aina. Then we split into our hiking groups and made group names. Our group's name was the Angry Chicken-Lions. My group also made trail names. We then started hiking on one of three trails. My group did the mystery of the trees compass course and the nature trail. As we got to that trail we saw th JOBOX tied to a pincherry tree. A JOBOX is a box that campers can put their suplies into to keep bears out of their stuff. We saw a really cool stone wall. There was even an old car at the top of the hill. It was left there by humans. It supposedly had pulled a ski lift, but that was no more. When each group was done at 4:30, we met back up at the lodge and played some games like chess and uno. I also played the guitar a little bit. At 6:00 we had a heavenly dinner of spaghetti and meatballs. When everybody was done, we had dessert, which was homemade brownies. Afterwards we went on a night hike with Max's group. He taught us about the chemical in your eye that builds up in the dark and helps you see in the dark. Then Mr. Woolner told us some pirate stories and we had some free time. At 9:00 we went to bed. We were all exhausted so we fell right to sleep. The day was full of surprises.
